Seoul – South Korean telecoms giant KT Corp. said Wednesday it will diversify its artificial intelligence-related business portfolio, aiming for annual sales of 1.3 trillion won ($1 billion) by 2025 in the fastest-growing segment alone.
“KT is newly focusing on three AI areas: robotics, healthcare and education,” KT senior vice president Song Jae-ho said at a press conference in Seoul.
“We believe these three areas can help mitigate ongoing social issues and bring innovation. We aim to be an AI service provider that can provide assistance,” he added.
The telecommunications giant said it has already secured orders worth more than 800 billion won for AI contact centers and logistics services, painting a rosy future for the entire AI business.
Based on its own delivery system and robot platform, KT announced that it will expand its supply of AI robots for delivery services in various fields. We also plan to provide a remote healthcare service that utilizes AI, mainly for chronic diseases, and a platform that will realize future digital education.
The company also aims to expand into overseas markets by utilizing advanced AI technology.
The company plans to partner with Singaporean mobile operator Singtel and a logistics company this month to bring an AI transportation platform to Singapore. Vietnam-based healthcare company KT Healthcare Vina will be set up to commercialize AI care services for cancer and chronic disease patients in the second half of this year.
KT also announced a five-year investment plan to strengthen its competitiveness in the AI field, with approximately seven investments in hyperscale AI technology, the evolution of cloud and Internet data center infrastructure, and the identification of new AI businesses by 2027. billion won.
“As a domestic leading AI company, we will apply our accumulated experience, capabilities, infrastructure and know-how to the AI business, and establish ourselves as a customer-oriented AI service provider,” he said.
“We will do our utmost not only for future growth, but also for raising the competitiveness of the Korean AI industry as a whole.”
