“AI helps us to be leaner, faster and more responsive to our customers' concerns, delivering a much better experience,” said David Sandström, CMO at Klarna.
“In fact, we are saving tens of millions of dollars annually while driving more marketing efforts.
“Traditionally, it would have been very costly to create custom imagery for these occasions, but with AI, that problem goes away. It basically removes the need for stock imagery.”
Using Gen AI, Klarna was able to generate over 1,000 original images in the first quarter of 2024 alone, demonstrating the productivity gains and cost savings that Gen AI can bring.
The speed at which Klarna can generate new imagery has reduced image development cycles from six weeks to seven days.
It's not just image production that Gen AI has helped Klarna significantly reduce costs: the company was able to realize an additional $4 million in spending savings by cutting costs with external marketing suppliers for translation, production, and social agencies.
And Gen AI is helping Klarna become more efficient in areas beyond marketing: The fintech company recently partnered with OpenAI to develop an AI assistant for its customer service department, helping the AI take on the work of 700 full-time agents.
