Based on PIL alleging corruption in the installation of AI-enabled traffic cameras, the Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed the state government not to make pension-based payments until further orders.

The court issued the order while reviewing the PIL, which was run by opposition leader VD Satheesan and senior parliamentary member Ramesh Chenitara.

Kerala Department of Transport has introduced an automated traffic enforcement system for safe Kerala. Under this system, AI-enabled cameras have been installed statewide, capturing traffic violations over the past month and issuing fines for all registered violations. Since June 5, the ministry has begun the process of collecting fines for traffic violations recorded by AI-equipped cameras.

Posting the case by July 13, the Divisional Court of Chief Justices SV Bhatti and Justice Basant Balaji said: Voided either objectively, in good faith, or for incidental grounds currently set forth in the petition. In other words, by changing the module from boot to pension, the Treasury will be giving up more than was originally envisioned, either directly or indirectly. ”
