A survey by recruitment firm Hays Ireland found that 80% of jobseekers would like to know that employers are using AI to assess their job applications.

More than half (54%) of organizations now inform potential candidates that they use AI in the hiring process, while professionals are using AI tools to tailor resumes to specific job ads. Nearly three-quarters (70%) of employers believe that resume reviews are the most effective form of assessment when screening applications.

One-third of organizations are currently using AI in the workplace, and of those, 14% use the technology to evaluate job applications. This includes scanning resumes and scoring job applicants to help filter and identify the most suitable candidates based on the job description.

The survey found that 32% of 18-24 year olds have used AI to apply for jobs, compared to just 18% of those over 50. Public sector organisations are more likely than private sector organisations to use AI to assess job applications, at 25% vs 12%, respectively.

Maureen Lynch, managing director of Hays Ireland, said: “AI tools continue to be a major innovation in the workplace, impacting both employees and employers. While human perspectives and debate are crucial, AI tools can enhance and improve the way we do our jobs.”

“Some professionals may be hesitant to use AI tools without clear approval from their current or potential employers. This hesitation often stems from concerns about possible misunderstandings about the use of AI in the workplace or a fear of being seen as overly reliant on the technology.”

“The use of AI tools in the workplace is likely to increase as organizations become more familiar with them and implement clear policies that encourage the integration of AI into the workplace.”

Lynch added: “Clear communication about how AI tools will be used is essential for both employees and employers to strike a balance between leveraging AI and maintaining high quality work.”

“We expect companies to increase their use of AI tools to make the hiring process more efficient and innovative while continuing to conduct in-person interviews.”
