Japan Coast Guard conference exploring the impact of AI on education

The growing impact of artificial intelligence on education will be explored as part of a free conference later this month.

Jersey College for Girls will be hosting a one-day “Education in an AI World” event on Friday, June 26th.

The conference will bring together experts, teachers, students, and parents to discuss how AI is reshaping teaching and learning.

This workshop, hosted by R3nquist, aims to provide participants with the tools, insights, and understanding they need to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world.

Another program will be run for educators and Year 12 students before concluding with a presentation for parents.

The Educator Program is open to teachers from all schools and will feature keynotes and workshops from three experts in artificial intelligence and digital innovation.

Speakers include Dr. Caitlin Regel, Associate Professor of Digital Humanities at University College London, who is known for her research on digital and AI literacy and advises on online safety legislation.

Also participating will be Amelia King, director of digital transformation at Dulwich College London and author of Thinking with AI, and Dominic Lukes, an AI consultant specializing in the use of generative AI in academic practice at Oxford University’s Center for AI Competency.

Topics discussed throughout the day include current research on AI literacy, practical approaches to teaching and learning with AI, and the evolving role of education in what organizers call the “cognitive revolution.”

A dedicated program for Year 12 students will focus on how AI is used in learning, preparing for an AI-driven future, and the environmental impact of AI in schools.

At the end of the conference, Ms. King will give a presentation to parents entitled “Thinking with AI.”

Simon Lewis, Deputy Principal at the Coast Guard, said: “This conference will explore important themes such as preparing students for an AI-driven future, the science of learning in the age of AI, the emerging cognitive revolution and the innovative use of AI in developing teaching materials.”

“A conference for Year 12 students will be held in parallel and will explore similar themes with a focus on current and future learning.”
