A cute and hilarious video of two cats has left the internet perplexed as it’s hard to tell whether it’s real or AI-generated.
The video shows a ginger cat facing a tabby cat behind a glass door. The “human” then opens the door and the tabby cat places its paw on the ginger cat’s head. This video not only achieves an amazing level of authenticity, but also captures how cats sometimes behave with each other.
Is this an AI-generated video?

The video was discussed in multiple Reddit posts over the past week. The general consensus is that the video was generated by AI, but there is no conclusive evidence.
“Look at the reflection in the glass right before the cat moves. And there are some weird obscurities, like the fur blurring when an outside cat moves its paws on another cat’s head,” one Redditor wrote.
Part of the discomfort may be due to the low resolution and high compression of the video. However, as PetaPixel Editor-in-chief Jaron Schneider, who saw the video, said there were too many consistency issues.
“The strangeness of the gray cat’s paws on the orange cat’s head, the mismatched markings on the gray cat, the strange appearance and disappearance of black stains on the concrete, the vibrations in its whiskers, and the strange clumps of fur that grow and contract as the gray cat moves its arms all lead us to believe this is not a real video,” Schneider says. “If it’s just one or two of these, you can believe it’s just a compression artifact. But when they’re together? It’s hard to believe.”

But if the video is AI, why would anyone go to the trouble of faking such a mediocre clip? “With AI, anyone can turn wild ideas into highly realistic content in a matter of minutes, and get noticed online.” PetaPixel Jeremy Gray, Senior News Editor. “People are now doing far more for far less. There’s nothing that some social media users won’t lie about. And AI has empowered them all.”
The second half of 2025 is a strange situation. People no longer believe what they see on the internet, and real photos and videos are increasingly being dismissed as AI.
“I think the bigger question is, does it really matter?” Schneider said. “Videos like this are already empty, quick to release dopamine, and mentally discarded as soon as you swipe them. If there is ever a place where AI can ‘contribute’ to society, it’s in the form of stupid, pointless, and harmless short videos. Is it a slippery slope? Probably. But remember, that’s a false idea. ”
For better or worse, cat videos are always popular, even if they’re fake. “I like cat videos,” Gray adds. “I keep clicking.”
