It's getting harder and harder to tell whether a video is real or AI, but a new tool from Google could make it a little easier.
Google announced enhancements to its content transparency tools, including the ability for Gemini to identify if a video was created or edited with Google AI tools. A similar feature was introduced for images just a few weeks ago.

The only catch is that this tool only identifies Google videos, not videos that may have been created with other tools. Still, it's a useful tool to help you stay aware of what you're looking at.
To test your video, upload it to Gemini and ask, “Was this generated using Google AI?” Gemini searches for the invisible SynthID watermark present on everything Google AI creates, both audio and video. Gemini returns a response like “No SynthID was detected” or “SynthID was detected between 5 and 20 seconds in the video and between 10 and 20 seconds in the audio.”
You can upload videos up to 100MB and 90 seconds.
Does Gemini's AI detection work?
To test this feature, I created a video using three different AI image generators: Gemini, Bing, and Adobe Firefly (for those interested, Gemini was the one that followed the prompts the best). I saved the video to my phone, emailed it to another address, then downloaded it to another device, and uploaded all three to Gemini.
Gemini correctly flagged what I generated as having a SynthID for both audio and video. For the second and third videos, Gemini correctly said they were not created with Google's tools, as they do not contain the Google watermark, but we were unable to determine whether they were created with other AI tools.

I asked Gemini if he could make educated guesses about common issues with AI-generated videos. After a few seconds, it returned seven exact reasons why the video was likely AI-generated. So even if the video wasn't created with Gemini, remember that Gemini can help you determine if it's real or not.
Google said image and video verification is now available in all languages and countries supported by the Gemini app.
