Hello everyone. Instagram Really The company wants you to start using AI tools.
Based on Mark Zuckerberg's recent podcast appearance (in a new chains look, of course) to talk about Meta's latest AI tools, and the appearance of Instagram's booth at this year's premier creator conference, VidCon, it's clear that Meta is on a promotional offensive to jumpstart its generative AI efforts.
“A big part of this approach is empowering every creator on our platform, and ultimately every small business, to build their own AI to help them interact with their community or, if they're a business, their customers,” Zuckerberg said on a recent episode of “Blueprint,” a podcast hosted by YouTuber Kayne Sutter, better known online as “Kallaway.”
The AI Studio product will allow creators to create their own AI-powered characters within the app, a feature still in testing, which follows on from Meta's chatbot characters that began rolling out last year.
In addition to appearing on the podcast, Zuckerberg also shared news and examples of Messaging Creator's AI chatbot on his Instagram Broadcasting channel.
Meanwhile, in Anaheim, California, Instagram is showing off its AI capabilities at the creator economy's largest event.
The platform's booth at VidCon 2024 will feature activities such as making magnets using Instagram's AI-generated stickers and taking photos using the platform's AI background tool, which can be used in the Stories feature.
Many of Instagram's AI tools, such as in-chat stickers and creator chatbots, can be accessed within the DM feature.
This is no coincidence.
DMs have become a key part of Instagram's roadmap in recent times, along with features like Notes, which have become increasingly popular, especially among younger users.
“If you look at Instagram, DMs are one of the fastest growing parts of the system,” Zuckerberg said on the “Blueprint” podcast. “That's one of the reasons I'm excited about Creator Studio and AI Studio. Essentially, we're going to enable people to create a persona, an AI version of themselves, and then they can respond to all the DMs that the community sends them.”
