But AI chatbots seem to fit with the company’s previous statements about its AI ambitions.

The company announced that it is “developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.” He also said the company is exploring ways to make such bots accessible through text conversations “like chats on WhatsApp and Messenger.”
The tweet did not say when Meta plans to launch these bots on Instagram. Nor does it mention any safety tips the company implements for its users before deploying chatbots.
Other social media platforms with AI chatbots
The potential for chatbots to become an attractive feature on social media platforms is already being explored on other platforms. In February, Snapchat launched its own “My AI” chatbot powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
Other platforms such as Character.ai, which allows users to train and converse with chatbots based on popular fictional characters, are also gaining in popularity. Bots that are not even intended for social engagement are also employed for this purpose.
However, the challenge for these platforms is not only to develop engaging chatbots, but also to prevent these bots from engaging in aggressive or dangerous interactions. Reports of such incidents of chatbots providing “offensive” advice to users are already in the news.
