Insta360 has announced Insta360 Connect, an AI-powered dual-camera video bar built for professional video conferencing.
This new camera is a little off PetapixelTypically a specialty of Insta360, this is an exciting piece of camera technology developed by the company best known for its 360-degree action cameras such as the Insta360 X4. Clearly, Insta360 is no stranger to interesting cameras, and it's also no stranger to webcam applications, having launched its AI-powered 4K webcam, the Insta360 Link, in 2022.
Insta360 Connect boasts a dual 4K camera setup consisting of a wide-angle camera and a telephoto gimbal camera. The two cameras work together to provide wider group shots in high resolution or individual close-ups of presenters or speakers.
Connect combines a 4K camera with AI Resolution+, which Insta360 describes as a machine learning algorithm that “transforms image quality and detail,” making distant speakers sound clearer and enabling “2x the resolution for lifelike remote interactions.”
Audio is a key element of meetings and presentations, and the Insta360 Connect is equipped with a 14-microphone array and 3D audio algorithms. Insta360 promises “higher quality audio capture,” saying the Connect can pick up audio from up to 10 meters (33 feet) away with balanced volume and good clarity.
The camera also features adaptive audio that can eliminate unwanted sounds and noise, and its “intelligent noise reduction technology” analyzes the acoustic environment and compensates for reverberation in real time.
As seen in a variety of cameras, such as Canon's PowerShot Pick PTZ camera, Insta360 Connect uses subject tracking to keep the speaker in the center of the frame. The company says Connect uses multi-modal recognition technology, resulting in more accurate tracking performance. The camera monitors all participants simultaneously, allowing it to quickly switch between them when the speaker changes.
During a presentation, you may need to see areas other than the speaker, which is where Whiteboard mode comes in. In this mode, Connect focuses squarely on the whiteboard area and can reconstruct the whiteboard even if a participant temporarily blocks the camera.
Insta360 Connect is “the perfect solution for businesses and professionals looking for uncompromising video conferencing quality,” Insta360 promises. The Insta360 Connect will be available in the fourth quarter of this year and is available for pre-order now. Insta360 is asking for a $100 down payment, which will be deducted from the final launch price of $200, which has yet to be revealed.
