With the rapid expansion of intelligent AI-powered defenses, record amounts of malicious traffic have been blocked.

The report reveals that fraudsters are using AI to augment and personalize harmful messages, leading to a 77% increase in detected threats while businesses are responding in kind. Adoption of AI-powered fraud detection increased by 71% year over year, and pattern-based detection increased by 105%, underscoring the shift towards adaptive security.

Matija Razem, Chief Commercial Telecommunications Officer at Infobip, said: “While fraudsters are using AI to automate and scale their campaigns faster than ever, AI-powered protections are evolving just as fast. The significant increase in AI-powered detections proves that leading organizations are no longer treating security as an afterthought, but are building it directly into their communications infrastructure.”

The report also highlights clear fraud trends occurring across the Asia Pacific region.

As digital engagement and mobile-first banking continue to accelerate across the Asia-Pacific region, businesses are grappling with an increasingly complex fraud environment. Based on Infobip data, at the network level, APAC is one of the most technologically advanced regions. Operator firewalls are highly automated, with mature AI-powered detection models that can identify and block most threats without human intervention.

However, at the enterprise level, OTP-based fraud remains a significant challenge in several major markets. Certain regions continue to record elevated suspicious authentication rates, indicating a structural pattern of fraud rather than an isolated campaign.

Regulatory oversight has also increased across the region. In countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and India, regulators have introduced stronger authentication requirements, reflecting a broader regional shift in treating SMS OTP vulnerabilities as both a security and compliance priority.

This increased focus on fraud prevention is driving increased corporate behavior across APAC. For example, PLDT Enterprise strengthened security across Smart’s network after implementing Infobip’s SMS and voice firewall. This implementation reduced spam, smishing, and fraudulent SMS traffic, blocking over 1.3 billion spam and fraud attempts, while improving SMS delivery and overall network security.

In APAC’s rapidly growing digital economy, trust has emerged as a key competitive advantage, and enterprises must make network APIs a core part of their anti-fraud and authentication strategies. Businesses should consider leveraging the capabilities of network APIs such as number verification, SIM swap detection, KYC matching, and device location verification to successfully address evolving threats while providing a seamless customer experience. By taking this a step further and coordinating these capabilities through a CPaaS platform, enterprises can create a centralized and resilient security framework that can reduce fraud without disrupting the user experience. ” Goran Valjak, director of telecom growth and Asia strategy at Infobip, said:
