JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesia shared its experience with Artificial Intelligence Preparation Assessment Methods (AI-RAM) at the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence held in Bangkok on Wednesday.
Nezar Patria, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs, took part in a high-level session entitled “From Preparatory Evaluation to Enhancement of AI's Institutional, Technical and Human Capabilities.” He published important findings from Indonesia's national AI-RAM assessment.
“AI-RAM has helped us to comprehensively assess the situation of AI development across multiple dimensions: legal, social, scientific, economic and technical,” Patria said in a statement.
He explained that the process promoted a common understanding of the diverse needs and expectations developed through multi-stakeholder workshops held in Jakarta, Aceh, Balikpapan and Makassar.
Patria stressed that AI-RAM is focused on adopting technology, but Indonesia also considers the need to align this with the strategic goals of digital sovereignty.
“The most important step is to complement this by evaluating the sovereignty readiness of digital technology. This is a deeper and more important strategic assessment of the future in a global digital environment,” he added.
During the session, Indonesia also highlighted the importance of AI ethical education, public engagement, and sector-specific policies in areas such as healthcare, education, and bureaucratic reform.
The country also advocated regional cooperation between global Southern countries, highlighting shared values, ethical standards and knowledge exchange. They called for the integration of ethical impact assessments into all multilateral AI initiatives.
This year's UNESCO AI Ethics Forum focuses on strengthening global collaboration to ensure that technological development supports human rights, social justice and sustainability.
“Indonesia remains committed to playing a strategic role for the global AI ecosystem, particularly the global tropical country,” Patria said.
