According to Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, South Asia, Nvidia, India has the potential to establish itself as a global center for intelligence-driven technology, with Bengaluru emerging as a key hub due to its talent base and application-driven innovation ecosystem.
Speaking at the “Voice AI – Making the Best Work for India” event in Bangalore on January 28, Dhupal said India’s advantage in artificial intelligence lies not in competing for frontier AI models but in deploying intelligence at a population scale. He was in conversation with Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys and EkStep, during a fireside conversation.
As reported by Moneycontrol, Dhupar said the global technology landscape is moving from simply storing information to generating actionable intelligence. According to him, intelligence only makes sense when AI applications are embedded in real-world workflows and operate at scale. “A standalone model or token has limited value unless applied within a context that delivers results,” he said.
He pointed out that while much of the global AI debate still focuses on the supply side, such as model size and computing power, India’s opportunity lies on the demand side, where large-scale adoption, affordability and real-world use are key. Providing intelligence that works at scale and at low cost is where India can differentiate, he added.
Dupal pointed to Bangalore’s growing ecosystem of technology builders, startups and AI experts as a key factor supporting this transition. The city has emerged as India’s largest artificial intelligence talent hub and now rivals established global tech clusters in terms of workforce depth. According to recent industry data, Bangalore is also the largest technology talent market in Asia Pacific, with over 1 million technology professionals.
Depart said that as AI-driven applications are built and adopted in various sectors, the learning cycle will accelerate, creating a reinforcing loop that will generate further innovation and global attention.
Nairkani said India’s experience in building digital infrastructure at population scale provides a strong foundation for the next phase of AI adoption. Platforms such as Aadhaar and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) operate at low cost and in high volume, demonstrating India’s ability to deploy complex technology systems broadly and reliably.
He added that voice-based artificial intelligence could play an important role in expanding access to technology in linguistically diverse countries like India. According to Nilekani, voice AI is an important step toward making digital services more inclusive by lowering barriers for users across different languages and literacy levels.
