“If AI is the reason…”: Viral post asks why companies are still looking for H-1B

AI For Business

Viral Post claims that companies that are laying off are still looking for H-1Bs to hire.

In a massive layoff announced by US companies, mail has become a virus, indicating that Microsoft, one of 10 companies employing foreign labor, has sought 14,181 H-1B. In this post, we shared the H-1B requirements of other companies, including Amazon, Nvidia, Cisco, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, Apple, and more. A post by investigative journalist Amanda Louise noted that demand for H-1B has not slowed despite technology layoffs. “Microsoft has cut thousands of American workers…but they've already requested 14,181 H-1B workers this year, and that's only quarterly,” the post said. “If AI is the reason why Americans are being left out, why are businesses still looking for hundreds of thousands of foreign technology workers?” Posts have been added. Social media users responded to the post and began an ongoing debate over the H-1B eating up American jobs at a lower price. “AI: Another Indian,” one comment read. “The obvious answer is that the H1B system has always been to import workers to reduce wages for technical workers. That's why both parties, all billionaires, and all CEOs agree to this issue. One user wrote.“Companies that are firing people should not be allowed to apply for H1B visas. There should be some kind of freezing period. This is just ridiculous,” another wrote. “I'm not going to say another big tech company, not where I work. Our bosses often go to India and dump thousands here. We learned how to farm and acquire quiet places on the coast, and shared our personal experiences. In May, Microsoft announced a reduction in 6,000 roles targeting sales, management and non-coding roles. Intel plans to eliminate about 20% of its workforce, which will result in around 21,000 jobs. According to the latest data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Trump administration chose to apply for a 120, 141 H-1B visa in 2026.
