Iceye revolutionizes response by unveiling machine learning-driven flood rapid impact products

Machine Learning

Helsinki, July 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – Iceye, the global leader in satellite-powered disaster management solutions, has announced the launch of Flood Rapid Impact (FRI). This product provides automated, near-realistic flood data for emergency managers, energy and utility organizations, insurance companies and banks. The launch forms part of Iceye's continuous expansion of its suite of multi-peryl data solutions.

The FRI provides a detailed flood range based on observational data within approximately 6-12 hours of the first indication of the event, indicating almost instantaneously the overall size of the flood and the most affected areas. The observed data is received from Iceye's Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellations. This allows flood monitoring through clouds, day and night. This information is analyzed using machine learning to quantify the extent of the flood. It will be available within a few hours via the ICEYE Solution Event Intelligence Hub and will be updated every 6-12 hours during the event period.

Iceye's dedicated in-house weather team monitors global weather conditions to predict potential floods and tasks to predict potential floods and satellite satellites 24/7. With the world's largest SAR satellite constellations, Iceye ensures frequent and timely monitoring of affected areas.

FRI speed and accuracy provide users with a new level of practical flood intelligence, supporting more informed and immediate decisions. Users have an almost instant understanding of where the water is currently and the extent of flood events at a certain point in the past.

For emergency responders, this rapid situational awareness allows for quick damage assessment, more effective resource allocation, and informed decisions based on real-time information. This will enhance coordination and help prioritize rescue and relief efforts.

It enables the most demanding hit areas to deliver faster, more accurate event loss estimates, faster communication with affected policyholders, previous insights into potential claims, and more efficient deployment of staff and resources, such as loss adjusters.

FRI complements Iceye's existing flood insight data products. It provides a frequently updated view of floods, allowing users to assess the development of floods from the initial evidence of floods as a series of snapshots, and flood insights provide detailed data on the extent and depth of maximum floods within 24 hours of flood peaks. During a tragic and historic flood in the centre Texas Earlier this month, Iceye worked with local and federal agencies to share important data on emergency response and disaster management efforts.

Andy read“We are pleased to announce that Iceye, Head of Solutions for Global Government,” said: “Flood Rapid Impact tells the story of an event with frequency and resolution, like giving responders a real-time heartbeat monitor for disasters.

Rupert BidwellVP Insurance Solutions, Iceye added: Storm Boris. This makes it very difficult for insurers to quickly understand the scale of the impact. In such a highly dynamic situation, access to ground-level data is essential for the insurance industry as floodwaters expand. Within six hours, Flood Rapid Impact allows companies to support customers in the most intense hit space, spread accurate information across their teams and beyond, and provide important insights to control the rapidly evolving situation. ”
