IBM has announced that it aims to equip 5 million young Indians across the country with professional skills in artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum computing by 2030. The initiative, delivered through the IBM SkillsBuild platform, aims to create a future-ready workforce by giving students and adult learners direct access to cutting-edge technologies that are reshaping the global economy.IBM plans to achieve this goal by integrating emerging technology education across the school, university, and career ecosystems. A key element of this development includes strategic collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The partnership with AICTE will focus on integrating AI learning into existing academic frameworks, training educators, and practical experience.

IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna emphasized that India is uniquely positioned to lead the next wave of global innovation.“India has the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI and quantum. Fluency in frontier technologies defines economic competitiveness, scientific progress and social transformation. Our commitment to skilling 5 million people is an investment in that future,” Krishna said.This initiative also targets school-level readiness. IBM is co-developing a purpose-built AI curriculum for upper secondary students, supported by a suite of resources including an AI project cookbook and a teacher handbook. These tools are designed to teach the principles of “responsible AI” and computational thinking, ensuring that the next generation understands both the capabilities and ethics of the tools they use. IBM has a global mission to train 30 million people by 2030.
