I spent hours tweaking clips to edit apps, but the AI video generation promises to skip everything. Explain your ideas and get the finished video. So I tried something premium to see if it would offer that promise.
I got a veed.io subscription to create a video
Veed.io is an online video platform that allows you to edit existing videos and create completely new videos using AI. Additionally, you can record your screen and stream video from the cloud. Intuitive video editing tools are accessible to anyone. No prior knowledge is required.
In addition to editing and generating videos, you can also generate scripts, convert slides to video, and blow the video into different languages. The tool also offers a variety of templates and allows you to add brand kits.
If you're making short videos primarily for social media, Veed is a one-stop shop for all your needs. There is a basic free version and advanced subscription options.
Despite all the price issues, I was a huge fan of the Adobe app. So I naturally leaned towards premier pro for video editing. But it was heavy software with too many options I didn't need. I am primarily a photographer and videos are not my strength. I just make videos every now and then.
I wanted to create some educational videos for the photography course I'm making. Specifically, I wanted to create videos using AI without having to record them myself. I used to use Veed for video editing at times before, so I decided to try out the AI options.
The free version of Veed allows you to download videos using watermarks. The Lite version is available for $9 per month, while the PRO plan is $24 per month. These paid versions offer higher resolution files, longer videos, and full access to libraries of audio and video files, and more.

Tutorial Video
The first thing I tried was to generate a tutorial explaining the depth of field of a photo. I started with a basic prompt: “Create a tutorial explaining depth of field.”
As expected, the results were not very good. It was pretty basic and I missed all the details I needed. I provided additional information using a script I created with ChatGpt. Veed gave me a slightly better version. However, I have found that there is still room for improvement in the visual department.
I tried both the audio-only version and the version that featured the model. Both worked well for my purposes. However, on some models, lip synchronization could be turned off. Please note that videos featuring models are only available in portrait orientation.
Finally, I got the video below. That's really impressive. It's not immediately AI video. All anatomy and physics are checked out. But it's an accurate video, but not so interesting.
What I really appreciate about Veed is the diverse languages and accents that can be used in the video. I think this will help make the video look more authentic and help you improve your connection with your audience. With the beta version of the tool, you can record yourself and use your voice in the video.
You can create scripts using the AI Script Generator. I appreciate the flexibility to try different tones, target audiences and formats.

Presentation video
As a teacher, I have created several PowerPoint lessons for my students. I was planning to make everything from scratch to new for the course. However, when I came across the Slides to Video option, I felt it was a great way to reuse presentations and save a lot of time.
There are also many final video options, from choosing the right model and audio to tone and length. I decided to go in a casual tone and the video exceeded my expectations.
The actual slides from PowerPoint were included in the video, but I used the summary option to enhance the slides and added details. Therefore, the video explains in detail. You can also leave the video to keep it short.
If you want to use a model, there are a variety of options, from business to casual. This can be useful for a variety of purposes, such as corporate briefs and creative YouTube videos. You have the option to personalize your video by adding a logo.
One thing to note is that the tool can only handle presentations with fewer than 20 slides. Most of my presentations were long so I wish this wasn't true. Also, the generator did not accept my keynote speech.

My Course Advertising Video
After generating videos and content for the course, I decided to create an ad for the Photo Course. The resulting video is not my favorite, as it was just not an ad. It sounded like a tutorial and provided information about framing and cameras without advertising the course.
I was hoping for a more refined video with a clear tone of the ads. We understand that advertising a course is slightly different from advertising a product, but AI needs to have the tone right.
As an experiment, I tried to create a beeswax lip balm ad, which was slightly better. A condescending tone is not an effective way to attract customers.
I wrote a script in ChatGpt and tried again. That was much better. Clips and photos are generally appropriate, but you need to make sure your script is perfect and contains the information you need.
I'm saving time using AI-generated clips, but creating professional videos with Veed requires a considerable amount of work. It's a hassle to go back and forth between video generators and script generators, or external tools like ChatGpt. If the video generator can generate accurate scripts, that's great.
Overall, Veed can be a useful tool for beginners and non-designers who want to create quick videos. This is especially useful when you come up with your own script. My big disappointment is that the AI requires detailed prompts and lots of tweaks. I was able to read my mind and gave me perfect results.
As an experienced photographer, we know the technical and artistic qualities we need in video. I'm not a professional videographer, but I know the basics of video editing. Plus, you can access Premiere Pro as part of your expensive Creative Cloud subscription. With all this in mind, would I use Veed for my filmmaking needs? The answer is still there.
I see that possibility and appreciate how tools like veed.io enhance the creative industry and make it better and more accessible. But as a creative expert, I want to have more control. Instead of tweaking my prompts to the tool, I find royalty-free clips and create a video to suit my taste.
That being said, it's still a free but good tool for video editing and I'll continue to use it. It is also recommended that other educators and new creative experts use this productive tool.
