Hyderabad, September 30 (PTI) Hyderabad police will investigate the use of AI in investigations and other policing areas to increase effectiveness, newly appointed Commissioner Sajjanar said on Tuesday.
Sajjanar, a Batch IPS Officer in 1996, was appointed Special Secretary (Home) as the Chief of Police Hyderabad and succeeded CV Anand.
Previously, Sajjanar was Managing Director of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
“Artificial intelligence (AI) is currently a buzzword around the world, and many offices and organizations are adopting it. Hyderabad police are also beginning to work on how AI can be used in various policing areas, including drones,” he told reporters here.
“Already, other police use drones. We'll study how effective they are. Many companies make drones. We'll connect with them and see how they can be used,” added Sajjanar.
He “will become Hyderabad's number one priority,” he said.
This approach will focus on law and order, traffic and traffic safety, women and children protection, adoption of AI-based technologies, prevention of cyber and financial crime, 24/7 civic services, and the welfare of police personnel.
Regarding the drug threat, the commissioner said, “It's destroying the future of young people and will be addressed firmly.”
He said that drug-related cases already registered will be reviewed in depth. Hyderabad's Drug Enforcement Building (H-new) will be further strengthened, with awareness campaigns such as “say no to drugs”.
He expressed concern over the rise in cybercrimes, including “digital arrests” and stock market fraud, and said recognition programs will be held to protect citizens, particularly seniors.
Calling poor food products “severe health damage,” Sajana warned of strict legal action against criminals.
Regarding traffic management, he said long-term goals will be set to alleviate crowds and save the public's time.
“Drives against driving by drunks will be our top focus because those who drive under the influence are like suicide bombings on our roads. That kind of behavior is unacceptable,” he said.
He also said visible police will be strengthened to ensure harsh actions against crimes targeting women and children and to maintain law and order.
A full audit of CCTV cameras (government and private) will take place after reports of units malfunctioning in parts of the city, he said.
“It is also guaranteed that every building has a CCTV, because it gives a safer city for the public,” he added.
Emphasizing Hyderabad's “unique identity as a city of community harmony,” Sajana said all measures will be taken to protect it.
