- Some singles use ChatGPT to create online dating profiles and message matches.
- Dating coach Amy Norville says ChatGPT can help, but there are some caveats.
- Nobil said relying too much on artificial intelligence can make your profile look inauthentic.
Singles often say they find it difficult to create eye-catching dating profiles or start conversations with new people.
Enter artificial intelligence. According to KJ Dhaliwal, chief strategy officer at Social Discovery Group, a company that builds AI technology for dating, gaming and entertainment websites, tools like his ChatGPT, an AI program that can generate human-like responses, can be leveraged to assist people looking to date.
According to Dhaliwal, dating app creators have been using AI on their platforms in the form of matching algorithms for years. But now consumers have the opportunity to take advantage of this technology as well. Already he uses ChatGPT to message matches and create a match-worthy bio for some.
ChatGPT can be a useful starting point for stuck singles, said Amy Norville, a dating coach who charges $20,000 per client. Nobile helps clients create dating app profiles and guides them through flirting, finding compatible partners, and transforming feelings of self-doubt and insecurity into hope and confidence.
AI cannot reproduce such human touch. That may be why none of her clients have so far sought advice on her use of AI, Nobil said.
She explained how singles can use ChatGPT and when it’s probably worth skipping AI.
Ask how to answer dating app prompts
Singles often make mistakes on dating apps, like writing profiles that are too general, not writing enough, or revealing too much, a dating expert previously told Insider.
To avoid these errors, try embedding prompts from apps like Bumble or Hinge (“I’m proud of what I do” or “I get along best with people who:”) into ChatGPT and ask for ideas for responses. Nobile told Insider that they can be a source of inspiration for singles suffering from writer’s block.
But there are also drawbacks. ChatGPT can provide inaccurate details about your hobbies and can sometimes sound robotic, reported Insider’s girlfriend Lakshmi Varanasi.
It’s important to note that ChatGPT works better the more you interact with it and enter customized information. To get the most out of it, you can provide context around your personality and interests, Insider previously reported. Or ask ChatGPT what kind of information you need to provide for best results.
To do this, enter: [desired outcome]which prompts should be shared with ChatGPT for best results?”
Brainstorm eye-catching real photo ideas
Choosing a photo is another common challenge for singles.
Dating experts say blurry, outdated, and large-scale group photos detract from the value of profiles, but the mistakes are common nonetheless. Set aside a few hours to take a clear current photo with your friend, and your profile will change quickly, Dhaliwal suggested, so ChatGPT could help.
Of course, online friends can’t take different featured photos for you. However, you can suggest locations, costumes, and props.
come up with conversation starters
In the spirit of brainstorming, Nobile said of the single: You can also use ChatGPT to start a conversation with a match. In her first message, she tells clients to ask questions based on what she finds in the person’s profile, or something empathetic but suggestive.
For example, when I asked ChatGPT for fun questions to start a conversation on a dating app, it offered the following suggestions:
“If you could have psychic powers, what would they be, and how would you use them downtown? [insert your city or their city]? ”
It’s playful and thought-provoking, perfect for starting a lively, light-hearted conversation with your match.
If you’ve successfully matched and decided to go on a first date, ChatGPT can also be used for conversation starters and questions that help you get to know the other person better.
Don’t just copy and paste
Not everyone can afford customized advice from Nobile or other dating pros, so free tools like ChatGPT that aggregate advice from online articles quoted by experts can help you get quick tips.
However, Nobile said he would avoid using ChatGPT-generated content as-is. Whether it’s chat lines, bio suggestions, or suggested photo ideas, editing them will help your profile look authentic and relatable, Nobil says. One woman who tried the copy-and-paste method, she said, didn’t stay dated.
Norville said putting his own spin on AI-generated content is a useful exercise in asserting who you really are and what makes you happy on a date.
Avoid conversations generated by ChatGPT
Finally, Nobile said he would avoid using ChatGPT to conduct full conversations on dating apps.
The same goes for sending match messages, Norville said. She said it’s important to take the time and energy to express yourself as you are, especially if you expect quality dating in return.
If someone relies too much on AI, they run the risk of looking different than they really are, Nobile said.
“With AI, you can outsource the basics, but when you get to like these little hints and specific, unique energies, it’s going to be hard for AI to translate it,” Nobil said.
