Beyond scientific curiosity, these breakthroughs have practical implications. Conservationists can monitor stress and disturbance in wildlife populations, welfare professionals can detect signs of disease or discomfort, and ecologists can assess the health of ecosystems by tracking acoustic changes.

As the social and emotional lives of animals begin to be more clearly understood, ethical considerations also come into focus. Listening to animal expressions may require us to rethink our interactions with animals, not just in conservation and agriculture, but also in how we recognize our responsibilities to other species.
