How iOS 27 uses AI to improve your writing

Applications of AI

According to an unconfirmed report on Monday, iOS 27 will offer additional grammar assistance powered by AI. This goes beyond the writing tools already available through Apple Intelligence and also works on macOS and iPadOS.

Additionally, Apple uses AI to generate wallpaper for your device and makes it easy to create shortcuts in the Shortcuts app.

iOS 27 could turn your iPhone into an AI writing assistant

A number of leaks indicate that Apple is preparing a major expansion of artificial intelligence capabilities with the release of iOS 27 this fall. The company needs to deploy AI-powered productivity tools to catch up with features already offered by rivals like Google and Samsung.

Some of these AI tools focus on improving users’ writing. bloomberg It was reported on Monday. Apple introduced Writing Tools in iOS 18 to use Apple Intelligence to rewrite and summarize text, but the company is likely developing a more advanced grammar-checking system designed to compete more directly with third-party services like Grammarly.

Despite the upgrade, the new version seems to work pretty much the same as the current version. Apple Intelligence already gives users the option to ask writing tools to suggest corrections for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and more. But that doesn’t mean the suggestions are always the best.

The upgraded writing tools will also be easier to find after the next operating system upgrade.

“Apple is also working to make AI lighting features more prominent across iOS and iPadOS.” bloomberg Reported. “The company is testing a new ‘Write with Siri’ toggle at the top of the keyboard, as well as a ‘Help Me Write’ option that appears when users activate Siri while working in a text field.”

These new AI writing tools could be a big selling point for people who frequently write on their iPhones and iPads, such as students and office workers.

More AI features in iOS 27: Shortcuts and wallpapers

The Shortcuts app allows users to automate routine tasks across apps and services. Although these are useful, they can also be difficult to set up. iOS 27 may fix that.

Apple is said to be restructuring its Shortcuts app to allow users to take advantage of AI. Instead of manually assembling shortcuts step by step, users will be able to simply write what they need and let the software create it for them, according to the report.

“In the updated app, users will be prompted, ‘What do you want the shortcut to do?’ along with a text field to describe the request.” bloomberg. “The system will automatically build the shortcut and install it on your device.”

Apple is also said to be working on a system that would allow users to create wallpapers for their iPhone, iPad, or Mac using AI. This is obviously part of the wallpaper picker and uses the improved Image Playground app.
