Project “2036 – Health with AI?” Explores how AI will shape future healthcare, from prevention to diagnosis and treatment. The aim is to help the broader public understand the potential, limitations, and impact of AI applications. The project by M1 – Munich Medical Alliance, of which TUM is a partner, is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) as part of the Year of Science 2026 – Future Medicine.
Max merge/TUM The goal of this project is to create a digital platform that uses concrete examples to demonstrate how AI can transform healthcare over the next decade. We use five examples from different stages of a patient’s life to demonstrate the wide range of applications of AI in healthcare. Possible examples include genetic analysis in childhood, image-based diagnostics, robotic surgery, wearables, and support systems in old age. We will focus on both the benefits and alternatives based on today’s non-AI treatments. This “patient journey” allows users to choose from options and experience different scenarios.
This project is aimed at a wide range of people interested in health, especially adults aged 40 and over. The content is not explicitly defined by the participating research institutions, but is developed in collaboration with the interested public. During two workshops in April, dialogue groups will identify and prioritize relevant topics. There are still places available for the workshop in Munich on April 23rd. 5 public events
The digital patient journey will be shared through the channels of project partner Wort & Bild Verlag, including apotheken-umschau.de, and through the channels of M1 – Munich Medicine Alliance and its member organizations. To this end, five public events will be held in the greater Munich area with the participation of experts from M1 partner institutions.
M1 partners TUM, LMU Munich and its university hospital and Helmholtz München provide scientific expertise and cutting-edge medical research, while Wort & Bild Verlag provides tailored communications. This project will not only help inform current research but also strengthen confidence in AI applications in healthcare.
