How AI apps pay 5G networks – AI fixes it

A new market research series shows the impact of AI on communications

Campbell, California., July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -Mobile Experts Inc. completed a series of research, research reports and models this month surrounding the impact of AI on mobile networks. This comprehensive exercise examined several aspects of artificial intelligence and machine learning. It tended to potentially clog the ability to create telecom traffic and add 5G networks to AI/ML capabilities with improved optimizations.

The first step in mobile expert analysis was to investigate the adoption of AI assistant applications on smartphones. Initial use such as CHATGPT had little impact on the 5G network, as it sent text or simple photos. Future use of AI and augmented reality applications will result in significantly higher levels of traffic due to the use of video. Modeling from mobile experts shows that demand for uplink data exceeds the capacity of urban 5G networks when using high frame rates and resolutions.

The second step in the research series examines the use of AI/ML to optimize 5G networks, and adds capacity by “tuning” the 5G network and “tuning” the optimal performance. Mobile expert analysts isolated the impact of real-time and non-real-time AI models and entered into details on channel state estimation, beam conditioning, traffic steering and other algorithms in 5G networks. A detailed view of how optimization is implemented allowed the MEXP team to quantify the amount of additional capacity available on the network, as well as the potential revenue for software, training, computing hardware and IP licenses.

Third, the team of mobile experts has compiled both models of 5G network demand (modeling uplink and downlink demand) compared to models of 5G network capacity in dense urban areas. This decisive model will be available to MEXP subscribers as a practical Excel model, allowing AI video analytics to assess the impact on the network of applications that use higher resolution or frame rates.

Conclusion: AI assistants and AR burden the 5G network, but AI-for-ran optimizations will generate more capacity than consumer applications that will be used until at least 2030. Wildcard automates AI for video analytics in automobiles, drones, and industrial applications. Mobile experts will update the enterprise/IoT impact of AI video over the next two years to monitor another large wave of demand.

“A new application is coming to your smartphone and is using AI processing capabilities on your device,” he said. Joe MaddenPrincipal Analyst. “We were able to identify which apps run on our phones and which apps require network connections. The frame rate, resolution, and persistence of the video input have a major impact on our 5G network.”

“Our research is investigating the overall impact of AI on 5G networks,” continued Madden. “Do AI apps consume all the bandwidth? Or will AI create more bandwidth on your network? What impact will it have? We have the answer now.”

The Mobile Expert Research Series includes results from consumer surveys, app assessments, technical deep analysis, cost analysis, and capacity modeling. The results of the research series are as follows:

  • Consumer survey results show market research and 5-year forecasts for smartphone AI applications.
  • Deep technical evaluation of AI-For-RAN. Includes detailed analysis of real-time AI optimization (as tied to RAN software) and non-real-time AI (available as Rapps).
  • Cost analysis of AI-For-RAN implementations in GPU and CPU-based approaches.
  • Five-year forecasts of GPUs, NIC cards, software and training revenues related to AI-For-Ran.
  • A work excel model to explain the on-demand impact of AI apps compared to the impact of AI-For Ran optimization.

Mobile experts are the only analyst company capable of doing this kind of in-depth technical analysis, combining it with national network-level modeling of demand and capabilities. For more information, contact a mobile expert.
