Honor Unveils AI-Based Blurred Eye Protection and Deepfake Detection at MWC Shanghai

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai, tech brand Honor has unveiled two new on-device AI-based innovations: AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection.

Considering the increase in myopia due to prolonged screen use, Honor has launched its AI Defocus Eye Protection technology. The technology uses AI to simulate defocus glasses on the display of smart devices, as these glasses induce a controlled defocus in the user's peripheral vision, helping to maintain a clear central field of vision. This alters vision and slows down the eye elongation process, leading to myopia.

Honor claims that its AI Defocus Eye Protection technology reduces users' temporary myopia by an average of 13° after 25 minutes of reading, with some users seeing a reduction of up to 75°.

Regarding AI deepfake detection, Honor says the technology helps prevent fraud and detect digitally manipulated content by examining generated content frame-by-frame, including eye contact, image clarity, lighting and video playback, to identify defects that are invisible to the human eye.

Honor also said its AI deepfake detection technology is trained through large datasets of images and videos related to online fraud, enabling the AI ​​to identify, screen and compare within three seconds.

When AI deepfake detection detects manipulated content, a risk warning pops up immediately, preventing users from continuing to engage with the potential fraudster.
