Like it or not, Chinese phone makers are unstoppable when it comes to releasing smartphones with over 5000mAh.
The latest brand in the spotlight is none other than techno and POVA curve 2 — Currently in the world The thinnest 8000mAh smartphone.
Cyber aesthetic coolness
The TECNO POVA Curve 2 isn’t as ambitious as other smartphones with flashy RGB/white light strips, LED matrices, and gaming-specific details, but it still looks cool.

This is not only the world’s first triple chipset smartphone, but also the first with 20 5G bands.
As someone who lives in an area where data reception is still spotty, I can definitely attest that the POVA Curve 2 has better network coverage compared to most smartphones.
Case in point: In a particular area of the transportation terminal I go to, POVA Curve 2 detected a 5G+ network with full signal bars. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro Max I have is limited to only 1 bar of 4G/LTE.

This makes TECNO POVA Curve 2 ideal for connecting to crowded areas and even blind spots in buildings.
Guaranteed durability
As mentioned many times in this article, TECNO POVA Curve 2 boasts incredible performance. 8000mAh battery among them.
It’s a really hard-to-kill smartphone. It reminds me of corrupt government leaders who are still alive and well after 20 years of terrible service.
Emotions aside, I installed all the game resources for an hour and played for another hour. For other midrangers, this means a significant 20% reduction.
TECNO’s POVA Curve 2 was only able to reduce it by about 8-10%.
Another example: playing a WOODZ album for 49 minutes resulted in only a 3% drop from 9% to 7%.
Then I played a 2.5 hour girl group interspersed playlist.
Surprisingly, the calls continued until the time of CHUU XO, my cyber love before it finally disappears. This is 33 of the 52 songs in my hand-picked playlist.
Additionally, POVA Curve 2 will last more than a week on standby.
The POCO X8 Pro Max I got has an even bigger 8500mAh tank inside and only lasts up to 4 days when used without touching anything. Who is the culprit? HyperOS is always a problem.
This further justifies that TECNO’s revamped OS is more power-efficient compared to previous versions that were battery-hungry.
To eliminate battery concerns, 45W wired charging here it is. It’s not the fastest, but you can definitely do it in less than 1.5 hours.

Despite its futuristic camera cutout, the POVA Curve 2 only has one camera. 50MP snapper.
Somehow I would say the quality is decent for what you get. You can clearly see this by taking a photo in broad daylight.
I appreciate how TECNO has incorporated the versatility of 23mm, 28mm, and 35mm focal lengths through a series of taps.
This main camera is also responsible for 2x zoom shots through in-sensor cropping.
Obviously, this is the mode I use most often at least once.
47mm is also the focal length that I think is best for food photography.
The bokeh falloff looks adequate without being too abrupt.
Through digital zoom (and post-mortem AI magic), you can also shoot far beyond your means.
However, the lack of an ultra-wide-angle lens means you’ll either have to back up to get the shot you want, or abandon it altogether.
In the end, I found the quality to be decent, although the camera’s preview doesn’t work well when shooting indoors.
In dark scenes, you can use Super Night mode to take better snapshots.
Just don’t expect great quality. Particularly at 2x, grain is present when cropping.
Before I forget, here is a macro shot of the flower. Just to prove that the additional 2MP macro camera has some purpose.

Let me be clear. TECNO is not the first mobile phone manufacturer to bring an 8000mAh smartphone to the market.
Still, Chinese brands really amaze me. In just one year (or less), TECNO has significantly enhanced the batteries in most (if not all) cell phones.
The first POVA Curve model in May 2025 already had a decent 5500mAh battery. Despite being almost as thin as its predecessor, it has added an additional 2500mAh in just 9 months.
This justifies TECNO’s ‘do nothing’ mantra – a true feat of engineering and a continuous drive for innovation, but a brand like Samsung, a leading technology component supplier, can’t even do the same, which is shameful.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (with 5000mAh battery)
Their S Ultra model has been in the same 5000mAh situation from 2020 until this year in 2026. This is 6 years of consistency for all the wrong reasons.
It was clearly a long forgotten issue. But maybe they’re still trying to play it safe. They want us to remember how the Galaxy Note7 fiasco shook the tech industry a decade ago.
I just hope I never have to deal with a similar situation again. Especially when everyone is so excited about this capacity fad.
