A digitally generated Moroccan “influencer” has been crowned the world's first Miss AI 2024 in a virtual beauty pageant. The hijab-wearing “influencer” Kenza Leyli won the title and $20,000 prize money from a field of 1,500 AI-generated contestants, beating other AI-generated contestants from France, Portugal and other countries. The AI influencer was created by Meriam Bessa of L'Atelier Digital & AI, a Moroccan media agency based in Casablanca, Morocco's largest city. Bessa said she used technology to generate images, videos and audio content, all from AI. Kenza Leyli celebrated her win by posting multiple photos on Instagram of herself in a gold sequined dress with a sash and crown. Leyli reaches out to a social media subscriber base of over 197,000 in seven languages, including her native Moroccan Arabic dialect, to promote cultural diversity, women's empowerment, environmental awareness and the responsible use of AI technology. The AI beauty contest was introduced at the World AI Creator Awards earlier this year. Kenza Leyli's selection as Miss AI comes as experts warn of the rise of artificial intelligence in several fields and the potential dangers of the objectification of women.
