California community colleges are streamlining the path from high school to higher education to the workforce, writes Bill Gates.

Seniors, mostly in their 60s, 70s and 80s, will be lining up to enroll in credit-free continuing education courses such as the basics of watercolor painting, Pilates and the history of snake oil remedies. This craving for classes was evident as the COVID-19 pandemic forced people to stay home and limited online learning.

Universities in the Maricopa County Community College District currently offer programs leading to undergraduate degrees. Starting this fall, students will be able to enroll in classes through programs such as early childhood education and information technology and graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
