AHMEDABAD: Students from Zebar Children’s School in Ahmedabad have developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based skin health awareness application called Derma Vision, demonstrating how technology can support both education and preventive healthcare. The project recently demonstrated its real-world impact with a community screening drive organized as part of the Women’s Day awareness program.Under the program, more than 450 women, including teachers, administrative staff, and ground staff from Udoganbaas School, Ahmedabad, volunteered to undergo AI-based skin scanning using the application. This screening revealed that approximately 50 participants exhibited distinct skin patterns that required professional dermatology consultation, highlighting the importance of early recognition and timely medical advice.Derma Vision was developed by class 7 and 8 students Dishen Gadiya, Hetanshu Patel, Yug Darsania and Janmesh Darji. This application uses computer vision technology to analyze visible skin patterns and displays the results in simple, easy-to-understand language. We also provide basic skin care tips, preventative measures, and home remedies, and recommend seeing a dermatologist only when necessary. This innovation has already been recognized nationally, winning the Artificial Intelligence Innovative Idea Award at the Vigyantram National Championship 2026 held at IIT Delhi, where it competed against teams from 49 schools across India.Encouraged by the results, the students now plan to work with dermatologists to further validate the application and strengthen its clinical and ethical safeguards.
