Singer Grimes invites artists to create new music using a version of her voice generated by artificial intelligence.
She said on Sunday that she splits the royalties 50-50 for “successful songs that are AI-generated using my voice.” Fans can register their music on her website. The singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, plans to upload her vocal stems to AI to help her artist process.
“I think it’s cool to fuse[ith] I love the idea of open sourcing all art and eliminating copyright. ” The singer tweeted on Sunday.
Her announcement is in a few days Songs that sound like they were played by Drake and The Weekndwas generated by artificial intelligence and pulled from music streaming platforms. Major record labels say songs using her AI version of the singer’s voice violate copyright laws.
Grimes said that in some cases they may take down copyright infringements, but only if her voice is used for truly “toxic” lyrics. I said we really need to push.
“I don’t like baby murder songs,” Grimes tweeted.
“Expect some turmoil,” said the artist. “Grimes is an art project, not a music project. The ultimate goal has always been to push boundaries, not to make great songs. It’s about seeing what happens, even if it’s bad for us.”
This isn’t Grimes’ first foray into AI. Her 2018 song “We Appreciate Power” is about artificial intelligence. The song’s lyrics include, “People like to say we’re insane / But when AI rules, AI rewards us / Pledge allegiance to the world’s most powerful computer / Simulation: It’s the future.”
Grimes’ former partner Elon Musk recently signed an open letter It called for a six-month moratorium on AI development, citing “serious risks to society and humanity.”
