GPT-4 is old news: ChatGPT Code Interpreter plugin is redefining AI technology

AI News

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s sensational AI-powered chatbot, has been making waves on the internet since its launch in November 2022. Its prowess has launched an AI race among the world’s largest technology companies. While the tech giant is scrambling to create the most innovative AI technology, developers around the world are looking for new ways to use his ChatGPT. ChatGPT is now powered by GPT-4, OpenAI’s very powerful large-scale language model.

In March, Sam Altman’s company announced that it would give ChatGPT the ability to browse the Internet with the help of plugins. The plugin seems to have opened the floodgates of possibilities for millions of developers, and chatbots have seen a surge of new plugins in recent weeks.

Recently, OpenAI announced their latest plugin, the ChatGPT code interpreter, and a series of other plugins.

What is ChatGPT Code Interpreter?

Basically, the ChatGPT code interpreter plugin comes with various features. This plugin provides ChatGPT, a Python interpreter that runs in a sandbox environment. According to OpenAI, the plugin can effectively solve qualitative and quantitative math problems, perform data analysis and data visualization, and convert files in various formats.

ChatGPT is known to generate code from natural language input, but this plugin enhances its functionality by changing the format of the response. A new plugin allows ChatGPT to use Python to provide results within a dialog box.

“We provide models with a Python interpreter that runs in a sandboxed, firewall-protected execution environment, as well as ephemeral disk space. Evaluated in a persistent session that lives (with an upper bound timeout) and subsequent calls can build on top of each other.Supports uploading files to the current conversation workspace and downloading work results.” and read the OpenAI blog that demos the plugin.

The demo showed ChatGPT performing various tasks. For example, it showed the proliferation of uploading large data sets and chatbots to identify trends and compare variables.

What can the ChatGPT code interpreter do?

Since the plugin came out, there have been many use cases discussed online. The code interpreter allows ChatGPT to perform basic video editing, convert GIFs to long MP4 videos, slow zoom can.

Another interesting feature is that once you upload your location data (i.e. a CSV file of all lighthouse locations in the United States), a visualized map will be created. Ethan Mollick, a professor at The Wharton School, used the prompt, “Create his gif of a map of lighthouse locations. The map is very dark, but each lighthouse shimmers.” A few seconds later, a map appeared with illuminated dots indicating lighthouses. He conducted similar experiments with lighthouses in Europe.

The Code Interpreter plugin has proven to be a great tool with file upload and download capabilities. According to designer Pietro Schirano, the plugin extracts colors from an image to create a palette.png and automatically compresses large images when memory runs out.

Another user on Twitter also shared that the code interpreter can analyze bitcoin datasets downloaded from an iPhone. As if groundbreaking data analysis wasn’t enough, the plugin can also convert images to text files and render animated GIFs from scratch in seconds. Code Interpreter can also analyze a user’s music preferences from Spotify playlists.

Based on everything that’s done with ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter, this plugin is a boon to developers and anyone testing new use cases for AI chatbots. The biggest advantage of this plugin is the ability to create completely new workflows easily and efficiently.

So far, OpenAI has not announced a date for the broader rollout of the ChatGPT plugin, but it looks like it will happen sooner than that.
