Members of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to the global effort's future vision and agreed to strengthen synergies to harness the potential of human-centric and trustworthy AI for the benefit of all.
Member states agreed to a common approach to the 19-point common agenda at the sixth meeting of the GPAI Ministerial Council, held on the first day of the Global India AI Summit in Delhi.

The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada, outgoing Chairman and Vice-Minister of Japan Hiroshi Yoshida, and Minister of Serbia Jelena Begovic, who will be the next Chair of GPAI. Representatives of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also participated in the meeting.
Members welcomed Serbia's election as GPAI Chair for 2024-25. The annual summit of the 29-nation GPAI group is scheduled to be held in Serbia later this year.
Key points on the agreement agenda included recognising the emerging risks and challenges posed by AI systems, working to promote trustworthy and human-centred AI, working jointly on the OECD Recommendation on AI, UNESCO Recommendation on Ethics in AI and following the New Delhi 2023 GPAI Ministerial Declaration.
Member countries also agreed to develop a new vision for the GPAI through an integrated partnership with the OECD, bringing together all current OECD and GPAI member countries on an equal footing, under the GPAI brand, and based on OECD recommendations on AI.
The GPAI Forum also highlights the need to foster synergies with AI initiatives launched in other international groupings such as the G20 and G7, including the Hiroshima AI Process, the Council of Europe and the 2023 Bletchley Park AI Safety Summit.
“The GPAI New Delhi conference in 2024 and the agreement on the future of GPAI underscore India's leadership in the global AI discussion and solidify India's pivotal role in leading the ethical and inclusive development of AI. This will pave the way for new integrated partnerships to achieve the goal of harnessing the potential of AI for good and for all,” an IT ministry press statement said.
