The government has announced the introduction of the country's first artificial intelligence (AI) platform “kagoj.ai'' developed exclusively for Bangla, as well as the launch of a new Bangla font “Jurai'' for official and institutional use.

The AI platform and fonts were officially launched on December 15 at an event organized by the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department at a hotel in Dhaka.

“About 4,000 users tested the platform over the past two weeks as part of the pilot phase,” said Faiz Ahmad Tayeb, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, who spoke at the program.

Faiz Taiyeb added that the government plans to publish the platform's application programming interface (API) to facilitate broader usage, and will also release the source code while maintaining cybersecurity protections.

He added that the initiative would be expanded beyond Bangla to include the collection of oral language data from different ethnic communities, with the aim of maintaining linguistic diversity in the digital space.

Project officials say the newly introduced July font is being developed for official and institutional use and aims to address technical limitations associated with computer-based Bangla typing.

Users who register on kagoj.ai receive 1,000 credits to use the platform, with additional credits available upon request free of charge if the initial allocation is exhausted.

Both the AI platform and the font were developed under the Bangladesh Computer Council's project aimed at strengthening the Bangla language through research and development in information technology, under the supervision of the ICT department.
