- Google's new mix board offers AI fuel visualization and image remix
- Users can create and edit idea boards using text prompts
- Mixboards are available in the US as an experimental beta
Google's popular new Gemini 2.5 flash image model is well known as Nano Banana and has a new home in Adobe Photoshop. Those with access to Photoshop's beta app can create images with Nano Banana, best known for making virus 3D figurines from photos directly within the generation filling tool, along with Adobe's own Firefly model.
Nano Banana is joining the platform along with a new context model from Black Forest Labs, the developer of the AI image maker used by Grok in X, known as Flux.1 Kontext. [pro].
This is a notable extension to Adobe's AI strategy. This has relied heavily on models built by Adobe up until now. But now, Photoshop users use Nano Banana to generate dreamy, stylized backgrounds, refined with realistic shadows via Flux.1, and polish everything within the filling function. Adobe seems to want Photoshop to compete to attract your creative attention as a hub for multiple AI models.
Adobe still encourages users to consider the Firefly model as a go-to for commercially safe outcomes. Firefly is built for high-end images in terms of quality, consistency and dependency on databases that Adobe has permission to use to train models.
Of course, nanobananas and flux have their own strengths. While Google's contributions are known for its text-based style thriving and eye-catching visuals, Black Forest Labs proposes the best models for more realistic and coherent images.
Now that it can be exchanged within the same prompt window, users can test these strengths very quickly. For example, if you have an idea for an illustration of a fantasy story, the nano banana can add a magical effect, but the flux realistically illuminates the cave setting, and the fireflies clean it all.
The imagination of AI images
Adobe may help the company as it fights to keep Photoshop above a list of high-end visual platforms, opening to third-party providers. Easily switching between models streamlines both professional and individual projects. Fastening the sometimes boring process of editing images will appeal to many creators.
For example, designers who create social content can generate stylized backgrounds in seconds and adjust them without switching tabs. The inventor can fully run the full product image and marketing launch campaign within Photoshop, making this process much easier, even for those who make interesting greeting card images.
You still need taste and direction. However, the draft and editing burden can be significantly lighter. If you want to try mixing Photoshop with Nano Banana, you will need to opt-in to Photoshop Beta via Creative Cloud. Adobe says further improvements will be made as the backend system is optimized and finer control is introduced with the output of each model.
