Google has added support for 1080p resolution and vertical video formats to the VEO 3 AI video generator. According to an announcement on Google's Developer Blog, VEO 3 and VEO 3 Fast (both faster, more affordable versions of the video models produce lower quality results) can now generate videos with a 9:16 aspect ratio suitable for content displayed on mobile devices and social media apps.
The blog states that vertical video support can be enabled by setting the Aspectratio parameter in the API request to 9:16. This means that this feature is specific to developers who are building apps that support VEO 3 video generation. This update also allows developers to set the resolution of the generated video to 1080p. Neowyn It reports that this is currently only supported on 16:9 aspect ratio videos.
Google says it's making VEO 3 and VEO 3 faster. “It's stable and ready for production use with Gemini API, allowing developers to generate videos using these tools. The generation from VEO 3 is now reduced from $0.75 to $0.40, while the VEO 3 FAST model is now reduced from $0.40 to $0.15. Google has introduced these updates in several sample videos generated in the new vertical format of Veo 3, which says, “Build it as Veo 3 is currently 50% cheaper and high quality.”
Given that Google announced in June that VEO 3 support will be added to YouTube shorts “late this summer,” support for vertical video format is not entirely surprising. Having developers access to support formatting in their own app means they are likely to start displaying content generated via VEO 3 on more vertical video platforms like Tiktok and Instagram reels, but they put more AI slops in front of their eyes.
