Tech giant Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL) has unveiled an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered video creation tool that aims to improve and streamline the video production process for individual and business users.
Called “Vids,” the AI-powered tool is designed primarily for work and aims to help users “build a story” for their business using generative AI. Integrated with Google Workspace, the tool offers users a wealth of royalty-free stock content and a built-in recording studio.
Announcing the latest development, Google Community Manager Karan Singh said that users can now create high-quality videos without leaving Google Workspace, a move the tech giant said will significantly boost the adoption levels of AI.A quick look at the service reveals several use cases, including creating scripts and narrations, and blending synthetic content with human work.
The service will leverage the power of Google's machine learning platforms Vertex AI and Gemini, while also offering support for multiple English accents and tones to expand the range of videos generated.
Users can leverage existing templates while adding content from Google Drive to speed up the creative process. With text prompts, Google Vid users can get started with features that support real-time collaboration with team members.
The project is still in beta and only available to select users, with the company's statement suggesting that priority will be given to Gemini Alpha users. Prior to commercial release, the company says it will stress test new features to ensure safe use without piracy penalties.
“It's finally here: Try Google Vids today,” Google's announcement reads. “Vids is an AI-powered video creation app designed for work and tightly integrated with the Workspace suite you use every day.”
Google noted that to take full advantage of the AI-powered video creation tool's features, users will need to be using the latest two versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge (NASDAQ: MSFT) browsers.
It's important to note that videos created using the service are limited to 10 minutes, although it's speculated that the length may be extended once it's commercially launched.
AI-powered workspace
Google has been branching out into AI and other emerging technologies, integrating a range of services into its collection of productivity tools, Workspace. Prior to Google Vids, the company introduced new AI tools for students by integrating Gemini into its platform.
The feature has seen rapid adoption by educational institutions, and Google is promising additional data protection for students using the platform. The company said inappropriate content will be automatically flagged and students will be introduced to the generative AI through comprehensive videos.
