  • Google is adding a new AI-powered “top results” section to Gmail searches on smartphones.
  • The company announced Friday that it will roll it out to all mobile users in the coming weeks.
  • This is the latest in a series of AI capabilities announced for various Google products and services.

Searches in Gmail will become more accurate as Google rolls out new AI-related features for smartphone users.

Alphabet said in a blog post on Friday that mobile Gmail users will soon see a “top results” section when searching for older messages and attachments in the Gmail app.

The top results section is powered by Google’s machine-learning algorithms, which use search terms, recent emails and other “relevant factors” to help find what users are searching for, the company said. I’m here.

In a blog post, Google said the feature was “highly requested” and will roll out to all Gmail mobile users in the next two weeks.

This post only mentions the mobile version of Gmail, so it’s unclear if the “top results” feature will be added to the browser-based version.

Google did not immediately respond to an insider’s request for comment, which was made outside of normal business hours.

The new feature is the latest example of Google’s recent efforts to bring AI into its products.

The search giant announced several new AI features and services at its I/O developer conference in May. So much so that some employees joked internally about the frequent mention of “AI” by executives during the event.

The November release of OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT sparked a flurry of development and funding for generative AI.

Earlier this year, reports reported that Google was rushing to catch up with ChatGPT, eventually releasing its own AI chatbot called Bard, which would eventually be integrated into search.
