Google has updated its employee training program to focus almost entirely on artificial intelligence (AI). The company has revamped its broad internal education platform, Growing Grow, using AI-related content to help employees integrate modern tools into their daily work. The change reportedly is part of Google's efforts to align internal learning with core business goals.
According to CNBC, Google is overhauling its 10-year-old growth platform to reflect its new AI-first strategy. This platform was previously known for its interchangeable mix of courses. This ranges from personal finance to 3D printing to Rubik's Cube Solving for Googles. The report suggests that employees who signed up for non-AI courses were informed earlier this year that these sessions would have been cancelled and archived.
A Google spokesperson told CNBC in a statement. “We are refreshing to help our employees find the most relevant learning opportunities.”
Changes to learning content also indicate a broader change in Google's internal priorities. Grow Google's online career training platform once lists 500,000 courses and was considered a valuable benefit. However, now Google believes that many of these courses are “not relevant to today's work,” according to an internal memo sent to course creators. According to Google, only sessions that match “business priorities” will be available. Programs that do not directly contribute to the bottom row are phased out.
Google's AI-centric transformation is also seen as part of a broader cost-cutting effort. Over the past year, Google has fired thousands of employees across multiple sectors, driven in part by internal efficiency goals and external political pressures, including diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs. Last year, he said, “We have a proactive roadmap for 2025.”
AI is now at the heart of product development, reportedly being reorganized accordingly, from search to internal workspace and Cloud operations.
