Over 100 colleges and universities have already signed up for Google's new AI education accelerator.

Google's parent company announced Wednesday that it plans to spend $1 billion over the next three years to help the university teach and train students on artificial intelligence.
Google is participating in other AI companies, including Openai and humanity, in its investment in AI training in higher education. All three companies have deployed new tools aimed at supporting “deep learning” among students, making the AI platform available for free for certain students.
As of Wednesday, Google has made the AI Pro plan free of charge to students over the age of 18 and living in the US or Brazil, Indonesia, Japan or Korea. That plan includes Google's more advanced chatbot Gemini 2.5 Pro.
The $1 billion will go to AI literacy programs, research funding and cloud computing resources, according to the announcement. The company also offers free AI training to all university students as part of the new Google AI for educational accelerators. The company said more than 100 public universities have already signed it.
“Students today are the first true generation of 'AI Native',” writes Google CEO Sundar Pichai. “We use these models in ways that none of us can predict whether we are learning things in new ways or creating new types of jobs that we don't yet imagine. It's still early on, and there are important questions, so we're working with higher education institutions to ensure students' success.”
