Google is helping AI Mode provide more personalized responses in search by allowing chatbots to analyze your Gmail and Google Photos accounts. Personal Intelligence, launched last week for Gemini AI, now lets you tailor AI mode search results to your interests and daily life by collecting information from your emails and photos, without having to manually create and adjust settings.
For example, Google says personal intelligence will allow AI modes to suggest travel itineraries by looking at hotel bookings and photo holiday snaps in Gmail. If you take a lot of selfies with your ice cream, they might be able to handpick the best ice cream parlors for you. When you shop online using AI mode, you can prioritize products from brands you wear or have previously purchased.
Starting today, eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can opt-in to AI mode Gmail and Google Photos connectivity. This update is rolling out in the US as a feature of Google Labs and is only available for personal Google Accounts. This rollout follows the introduction of personal intelligence in Gemini AI, which now brings search and YouTube history along with Gmail and photos.
“Built with privacy in mind, AI mode uses Gemini 3, our most intelligent model, and is not trained directly on your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library,” Robbie Stein, vice president of Google Search, said in the announcement. “Training is limited to limited information such as specific prompts and model responses in AI mode to improve functionality over time.”
Stein says that while personal intelligence may be useful, internal testing shows that “mistakes can occur.” Users in AI mode can correct inappropriate recommendations and provide feedback by giving follow-up responses or “thumbs up.”
