The Google Pixel 8a is expected to debut at the company's annual conference, Google I/O, which starts next month on May 14. While the company has yet to announce launch plans for the new device, details of the purported Pixel 8a device have been spotted online multiple times over the past few months. Now, with just a few weeks until the expected debut, a promotional video has been leaked showing off the device's AI capabilities, while other Pixel-exclusive features and software support for the upcoming Pixel 8a have also surfaced online.
Tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (X: @OnLeaks) in collaboration with MySmartPrice has leaked a promotional video for the Pixel 8a, showcasing some of the Pixel-exclusive features that will be coming to the phone. The video shows that the Pixel 8a will have Google's Best Take feature, which can take faces from multiple group or burst photos and “replace” faces with closed eyes or undesirable expressions.
“Circle to Search,” another feature currently available on some Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones, will also be available on the Pixel 8a, according to the leaked video, which also suggests that the phone will come with Google's Audio Magic Eraser feature, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to remove unwanted background sounds from recorded videos. Live translation for voice calls will also be supported on the Pixel 8a, according to the video.
Meanwhile, a leaked image from Android Headlines also suggests that the Pixel 8a will come with Best Take and Audio Magic Eraser features, as well as Call Assist, Circle to Search support, and Google VPN support, although Google VPN is expected to be discontinued on June 10.
The leaked teaser also states that the phone will be equipped with a Tensor G3 chip and will offer “seven years of security updates,” though it's unclear at this time whether it will get the same number of Android OS upgrades as the more premium model in the Pixel 8 series that uses the same processor. The company is expected to reveal more details about the phone ahead of its scheduled debut on May 14.
