Google Photos' new AI video editing tool will be deployed to Android users by June 2025, with iOS users expected to receive updates later that year.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Google Photos is rolling out an updated editor with new AI tools aimed at simplifying how people edit photos and videos. This update is not for professionals. It is made for everyday users who want to quickly clean their memories without much effort.
Photos that understand what you really want
The new Reimagine tool allows users to explain what they want to change in their photos. If you want to make the dull sky look like a sunset, simply enter it and the app will adjust the image to your mood and lighting.
Autoframes help improve your configuration by automatically focusing and cropping images based on what is perceived as important. There is no need to manually drag or zoom anything.
AI fixes brightness, sharpness and contrast with just one tap, making your photos look great in seconds.
Video editing is smarter
Google Photos also introduces AI support for video editing. These tools help you clean up unstable footage, suggest locations to trim clips, and make lighting adjustments. It's not intended to replace a full editing app, but it's enough to make the video easier to watch and share.
There is no timeline or multi-layer tools. A clean and quick way to improve basic video clips.
Sharing has become easier
Google has also added a new way to share albums using QR codes. Instead of sending links or digging through contact lists, users can generate code that allows someone nearby to scan and easily view the album.
It fits quickly and doesn't try to reinvent anything
I don't try too hard on this update. Just add features that feel like they belong. There is no learning curve or extra steps. Tools that help you where you expect them.
The rollout began in late May for Android. Most users will get it by June. iPhone users will be viewing updates later this year. If you want to look great without editing photos or videos, this update will make it easier.
