Google NoteBookLM has acquired another AI feature to help users better understand complex topics. On Tuesday, the Mountain View-based tech giant announced the deployment of a video overview, a tool that can generate visual narrative-focused overviews from sources. This new feature is intended to complement existing audio overview features. This is a scenario where the topic is very dense and visually breaking it down will be more useful for the user. Additionally, NoteBookLM has acquired a redesigned studio panel, allowing users to easily access a variety of tools.
Google NoteBookLM can now generate visual slides
In a blog post, Tech Giant detailed a new video overview feature on NotebookLM. The new overview format, which is part of the platform's studio output, comes with narrated slides. This feature was first announced at Google I/O 2025 and is ultimately heading down the road for users. In particular, this feature is available to all NoteBookLM users, including free tier users.

Gadgets 360 staff can test the functionality, and video overviews create multiple static visual slides, essentially as well as PowerPoint presentations that use diagrams, emojis, text, graphs and tables. This feature also uses important quotes from sources when necessary. The entire slideshow comes with AI-generated narration explaining the topic. Female AI voices narrate and there is no option to change your voice.
In our experience, the tool worked as advertised. However, the overall narration appears to be more generalized, missing out on some important points from the source. This nuance was better captured in the audio overview.
According to Google, video overviews can help explain many data, processes, and information-dense topics such as “making abstract concepts more concrete.” This format also allows users to specify topics and focus, highlight learning goals, and describe their target audience.
Separately, the company is redesigning studio panels that house audio and video overviews, mind maps and reports. The company is currently adding four large tiles to the right side of the interface for these features. Content created using these tools will be displayed below the list. Users can also multitask to view mind maps while listening to an audio overview.
Furthermore, so far, users have only been able to create a single output from each tool in their notebook. It is now deleted and allows users to create and store multiple studio outputs of the same type in a single notebook.
