Google launches Gemini AI assistant mobile app in India in nine languages

The app allows users to type, speak, or add images to get the help they need.

New Delhi:

Amid a growing debate over artificial intelligence (AI) models, Google on Tuesday launched the mobile app for its AI assistant Gemini in India.

The Gemini app is currently available in India and supports English and nine other languages - Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

The app allows users to type, speak, or add images to get the help they need.

“We'll be adding these local languages to Gemini Advanced, along with other new features, and launching Gemini with an English version of Google Messages,” Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a post on the X social media platform.

According to the company, Gemini Advanced users in India will now be able to access the features of its top-of-the-line model, Gemini 1.5 Pro, in nine languages.

“You'll also unlock new features in Gemini Advanced, including new data analysis capabilities, file uploads, and the ability to chat with Gemini through Google Messages, starting in English,” said Amar Subramanya, vice president of engineering at Gemini Experiences.

On iOS, you'll be able to access Gemini directly from the Google app in the coming weeks.

With a context window of 1 million tokens, Gemini Advanced has the longest context of any consumer chatbot currently widely available anywhere in the world.

“We're also bringing Gemini to Google Messages, giving you another way to collaborate with Gemini on your phone,” the company said.
