Google has rolled out a beta version of its new AI-powered video creation tool, Google Vids, to a select group of users within its suite of enterprise Workspace applications. The company announced the launch on Monday via an email to users and a forum post by a Google community manager.
“Start testing Google Vids today,” Google said in an emailed announcement, describing the tool as “an AI-powered video creation app designed for work and deeply integrated with the Workspace suite you use every day.”
Google Vids leverages the company's Gemini AI and Vertex AI technologies to generate customizable presentations based on user prompts. The tool incorporates text, audio, and video elements, allowing users to efficiently create professional presentations.
According to Google, the new tool offers a range of features designed to boost productivity in the workplace. Users can access royalty-free stock videos, images and background music to enrich their presentations. The platform also supports collaboration, allowing teams to work together on shared projects, just like other Google Workspace products.
One of the notable features of Google Vids is its diverse voice options. Users can choose from a variety of tones, including energetic, friendly, and calm, in different English dialects such as American English, British English, and Australian English.
The initial rollout of Google Vids is limited to a “select group of trusted testers” within Google Workspace Labs, allowing Google to improve the tool based on user feedback before making it available to the wider public.
Google first mentioned the video tool back in April, along with other additions to Gemini AI. In May, Google announced a slew of AI-powered features for its Workspace tools. Most of these new features were aimed at consumers, but Google Vids is currently only available to business and enterprise accounts.
Moreover, the new tool is part of Google's efforts to add AI to its products: Last month, Google released Gemini 1.5 Pro to developers, an improved version of its main AI model, and also introduced Gemma 2, a faster and more flexible open-source language model.
