Google empowers African small businesses with AI skills

AI For Business

Google has announced that it will upgrade its Hustle Academy curriculum to include business-focused artificial intelligence (AI) training to empower small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Africa.

The company made this known in a statement marking the relaunch of Hustle Academy, a program aimed at accelerating the growth of small and medium-sized businesses in sub-Saharan Africa.

Google emphasized that small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of Africa's economy and many need support to access capital and develop the essential skills needed to grow their businesses.

While announcing the launch of Hustle Academy's 2024 cohort, the company said more than 10,000 companies have benefited since its launch in 2022.

Christy Grant, head of B2B marketing at SSA, said: “AI holds immense potential for Africa’s small and medium-sized enterprises, allowing them to drive innovation, increase efficiency, and achieve new levels of economic growth.” He has supported over 10,000 companies in their efforts to create jobs.

“By incorporating AI into our curriculum, we aim to further extend this impact and enable small and medium-sized businesses to leverage AI technology to improve business performance and advance the economy.”

The new AI module focuses on data-driven decision-making, operational optimization, and building AI-powered marketing strategies. Attendees will explore practical applications through modules such as “Increasing Productivity with AI” and “Marketing Strategy and AI” and learn how to save time and enhance digital outreach.
