Google AI announcements from January

Machine Learning

Introducing Personal Intelligence for Gemini Apps. You can now securely connect to Google apps like Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, Search, and more, making Gemini uniquely useful. Personal Intelligence is currently available in beta in the US and will soon be available in more countries. It’s opt-in, so you can choose whether to turn it on or not, and specify which apps you don’t want it to work with.

We bring personal intelligence to AI mode in search. AI mode deploys personal intelligence to make your searches even more unique. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can securely opt-in to AI mode to connect apps like Gmail and Google Photos to receive personalized responses, including recommendations for shopping, travel, and more.

We’re bringing the next evolutionary AI to Gmail, built for the Gemini era. AI tools like Help me write, AI overview, and personalized reply suggestions are now available for free in Gmail. Google One AI Ultra and Google One AI Pro subscribers can access new features like AI Overview and Proofreading for Gmail Search for advanced grammar, tone, and style checking. And finally, for a select group of trusted testers, we’re introducing AI Inbox, a new view of Gmail that lets you cut through the noise in your inbox and see what’s most important.

Gemini 3 makes Chrome even more intelligent and useful. Key new features in Chrome, built on Gemini 3, include a revolutionary automated browsing feature that handles complex, multi-step tasks like booking travel and scheduling events completely for you. Additionally, Chrome now offers the ability to transform images on the web using Nano Banana. And a new side panel reimagines multitasking by putting your favorite Google apps right at your fingertips. This update transforms Chrome into a powerful productivity partner from windows to the web.
