Girija Oak slams vulgar images morphed by AI after saree video goes viral

Actor Girija Ouk, known for his roles in “Jawan” and “Taare Zameen Par,” has expressed concern about explicit AI-enhanced images of himself being spread on social media. The issue arose after a video of her wearing a blue saree went viral, resulting in a spike in both support and unwanted attention online.

Regarding the situation, the actor said that he is grateful for the praise. However, she stressed that the experience also had alarming consequences.

In an Instagram video, Girija said: “Some of my images have been manipulated with AI and they are not in very good taste. They have been sexualized and objectified beyond what is comfortable and this bothers me. When something goes viral, it becomes a trend. This kind of image usually gets created and circulated as long as people click on your post and you get enough likes, interactions, and views. We all know how this game is played.

Emphasizing the impact of such images, she said: “I have a 12-year-old son. He doesn’t use social media right now, but he will eventually. When he gets older, he’ll have access to these images because they may be out there now, but they’ll be on the internet forever.”

“These indecent images of his mother, he will see them one day. I worry about it, it scares me, I am lazy to think about how he will feel. He will know that these are not real images, but morphed with the help of AI,” she said.

“Like the people who are looking at these images now, they are aware of the fact that these are not real images, they are doctored. But it gives them a kind of cheap thrill, a kind of cheap digitization, which is scary,” the actor added.

Girija further appealed, saying, “If you are someone who is using AI to morph images of women, men, or other people into something inappropriate, you should think twice.”

“If you’re not someone who edits and posts these kinds of images, but you’re someone who likes to see these kinds of images on social media, you’re part of the problem. I can only ask you to reconsider,” she added.

Girija, the daughter of Marathi actor Girish Oak, has established herself in both Hindi and Marathi films. Her filmography includes ‘Shor In The City’, ‘Qala’, ‘Vaccine War’, ‘Jawan’ and more.
