Google makes it easier and smarter for Indian users to ask complicated questions online. The experimental AI mode with a specially tuned version of Gemini 2.5 has been officially launched in India, available in English via Google Labs.
How to try AI mode in India
Interested users open the Google app on their phone and then visit labs.google.com to activate the feature. Switch to the site once in an experiment titled AI mode.

“The AI mode uses a custom version of Gemini 2.5, which allows users to ask 'longer, more complicated and subtle questions',” Google explained in a blog post announcing its India deployment.
So, what does that actually mean? Let's say you're a parent looking for indoor activities to burn your child's energy. “My kids have a lot of energy, with 4 and 7. Suggest creative ways to operate and move indoors, especially on hot days, without the need for a lot of space or expensive toys.” AI can not only provide a list of creative solutions, but also handle follow-ups such as “Can you suggest activities you can do independently?”
Multimodal Magic: Text, Audio, Images
One of the greatest strengths of AI modes is its multimodal functionality. This means that you are not limited to entering questions. You can also use audio and images. Tap the microphone icon you are searching for and simply speak the query no matter how long or complicated it is.

Google also layered lens features to make image-based queries even more intuitive. “If you've got a new plant as a gift and want to know more about it, open the Google app on Android or iOS, take a photo and ask, 'What is this plant?' and show me how to paint it back and take care of it,” the blog says.

The magic behind AI mode lies in what Google calls the “Query Fan Out Technique.” Essentially, the system breaks down complex queries into smaller components and performs multiple searches in the background. The results are more detailed and subtle answers than you would normally get from a single search.
The tool also draws from Google's knowledge graphs and real-time sources to provide fresh, contextual answers. Whether it's advice, shopping suggestions, or factual information, AI mode aims to deliver everything in one place.
