With the AI revolution in full swing, workers are concerned about competing with machines for jobs.
But in a world where AI can expertly code, write and analyze data, what makes us human may matter more than ever, says Zach Kass, former leader of OpenAI. told Business Insider.
It means leaning towards the area where humans live. It still outperforms AI in things like critical thinking.
In the coming years, it will be more important to “hire lawyers based on how well they uniquely understand the problem, not how fast they are,” Kass said.
He said it will also be important to accept things that make you likeable, people that others will ultimately want to work with.
“AI will commoditize much of our knowledge and many of our skills,” Kass later wrote in an email. Therefore, “immutable human qualities'' such as “courage, vision, wisdom, and empathy'' will become even more important.
These qualities also have the potential to differentiate you as AI takes over tasks from employees at all levels. Research has already shown that AI can help equalize the workplace. Therefore, workers need to emphasize their personal qualities, Kass says.
“Why hire a bastard in a world where everyone is smart?” he said with a laugh.
A company's bottom line will be better if its workforce is made up of likeable people. People who have work friends are not only more likely to stay in their jobs, they're also more productive, engaged, happier, and healthier.
