In an era of advancing technology and the growing use of artificial intelligence, it has become difficult to tell the difference between the real and the fake. A similar incident started doing the rounds on social media, where a foreign woman was seen attending a Shiva Aarti during a heavy storm.
In a country like India, where religion has immense value, the video quickly drew praise from netizens. However, it turns out that the clip was generated by AI and has nothing to do with reality.
What is the video about?
An Instagram account named Namaste Bharat Foreigners of India shared a video ahead of Mahashivratri. The clip showed a woman looking forward to participating in the Shiva Aarti. She was seen standing near a temple at a hill station in very rough conditions.
The caption read, “A foreigner took this amazing aarti in a thunderstorm. Her reaction is making this photo viral! Please share this with more people.” The post received over 40,000 views and nearly 30,000 likes in just a few days.
How did netizens react?
Some praised the woman’s dedication, while others pointed out that the clip was AI-generated. One user wrote: “You’re so lucky…in fact, ‘blessed’ is the word to describe it.”
“Wow, you’re enjoying our India,” said another who believed the video was real.
“Check out her account…she posts AI-generated videos. But they’re really amazing,” another wrote.
“Wow, two flags facing different directions! AI. Why can’t people see that?” another person commented.
Many users were concerned about this video and stated that the video was so authentic that the majority could not understand that it was not authentic at all.
“I’m worried about people who don’t understand that this is fully AI,” one person wrote.
“I know this video is AI, but it’s becoming very difficult to understand whether this is AI or not, so this is more of a problem than inspirational or comforting,” another said.
AI-generated video shows Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise fighting
This isn’t the first time AI-generated video has caused concern. Recently, other media outlets began reporting on social media that Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were seen getting into a heated fight that never actually happened.
The hyper-realistic clip was reportedly generated using SeeDance 2.0, a new AI video tool developed by TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, and caused concern across the film industry.
